Morning Routine - American Psycho (1/12) Movie CLIP (2000) HD

The ultimate narcissist ?  This is a very strange film. In fact by the end you are not sure whether all the murder and mayhem is just a figment of his imagination. There is a lot of dark humour and quirky scenes, that are both observations and odd humour with a twist of surreal uneasiness. The film sqirms around not liking to be type cast as anything particular. Humiliation of others is a theme that excites the monster played by Christian Bale, but is he actually a monster or just an extremely annoying, insecure sociopath ? Having read another bloggers observations on these narcissistic  types, I see so many of the traits she writes about here in this film. Interesting.

  1. The malignant narcissists is a narcissist with strong psychopathic traits, so he could be a malignant narcissist. But then it is said that all psychopaths are narcissistic, which confuses me at times. So I guess the malignant narc and psychopath aren't that different; however, some people think that malignant narcs are the most dangerous. My ex was one.

  2. I watched this and it reminds me of my ex. He was very concerned about aging, even though he was young. If I mentioned he looked a little tired and if he had enough sleep, he would get a very panicked look in his face. I often caught him rubbing lotion all over his face. It was very weird.

The very first day I met him he stated the following:

    Am I losing my hair?

I am part Jewish, can you tell?

    Do I have an overbite?

My mother said I could be a model.

I have to be careful with women, as I'm very attractive.

    1. Sounds like he was very keen to draw a strong reaction from you that day ? That last line is a cracker though. Really ? lol

    2. He probably made that statement about women running after him because he wanted to make himself seem more "valuable," or a "hot commodity." He very often made comments that someone told him he could be a model, or that the single mom at his bank was hitting on him. It was very tiresome after a while.

When I was with him, no one even looked at him except one girl that he found very unattractive. That girl was constantly hounding him because he had long hair and she wanted to date someone with long hair. Otherwise, very few people even noticed him when we would go out. He was pretty tall, which was a good aspect, but otherwise bland. Dirty blonde hair, dressed in baggy clothing all the time, and just unremarkable. My mother said he was ugly. At the time I was attached to him so of course, I didn't see him as being ugly. I still don't really see him as ugly, because I am still trauma bonded to some extent and I really hate it.
