At last a war we havent an appetite for ?
It was just a week or two ago that I finished reading 1984. One key observation about this dystopian age was that the world was divide into 3 continents, and each power was unconquerable as they were all evenly matched and geographically impossible to invade and even if an attempt was made to do so then the cost of human loss of life, and financial losses would be to high. So did they bother compete militarily ? Well, yes, but the outcome was never important !
War was fought between the three powers constantly, but only over specific areas in small countries with resources that were not essential. It mattered not who conquered these lands as they constantly changed hands, a bit like in a trophy in a sporting event, and like sport the whole affair was just a contrived as a distraction for their populations. This reminds me of Eastern Europe really. Its just a playground that sees a pendulum affect that is no more than a ruse to fire people up.
Its quite frightening to hear people on a phone in show this morning talking about " Russians riding around London in their Bentleys " They were triggered, and took this as though it was a personal insult to them. We shall soon be having " hate weeks " like in the novel where people publicly shout at tv screens depicting the current " enemy ". As people have being programmed to side to a ridiculous degree with any moral idea such as isolation from family due to government regulations, then its safe to say they are unbalanced mentally and will forget all common sense when they are told a situation is a " problem ". For 2 years people generally acted as a whole.

Protesters face off with police trying to clear trucker demo in Ottawa |...
Water through a sieve, again.
Im finding it increasingly hard to sum up how I feel about anything because everything fluctuates slightly during experiencing it. Now I know nothing absolutely. I lack the overwhelming joy of a certainty of feeling about anything, even possessions I own. I like absolutes. As for a crisis, thats easy ! You do what you have too in the moment. At last a moment of clarity as we loose ourselves. I think loosing our selves in the moment is the only absolute we will ever feel again. Everything we think we think is misleading ?
I felt like this about 10 years ago and its back again. I mistake it for boredom ?

Butter fingers
A trivial but annoying problem. When I pick up a tv remote I accidentally press a button and change the channel or the tv on or off depending on what I dont want to do. Its getting worse and worse and the more Im aware of it, the more Im doing it. Ive noticed a static type click coming from the remote randomly. Thats strange. Mind you there isnt much that doesnt emit cracks and taps in this house...lol
A disturbing night
Last night was horrible. I went to bed with a headache and had very strange dreams all night. Whenever I woke up I was afraid, of what I dont know, but there was an overwhelming fear that something was wrong. It wasnt anxiety about any one particular thing on my mind, just constant fear in general. I didnt feel myself at all at anytime in the night, except for a few minutes when I sensed a lightening in my mood, and then I felt as though something was watching me from the cover of a tree line or range of bushes...in my mind that is. Something had made a retreat. This was only temporary though. I felt adrift and alone and scared until I woke about 4.30 am, and things seemed to be back to normal. I dont want another night like that. I felt like I was about to go insane. Ive never had a night like it.

If it works its banned !
Ive just heard some news that made me ripping mad and sad. An antibiotic we administer to lambs when they have stomach upsets is set to be rationed this spring, and then next year phased out. This is due to antibiotic resistance worries. Without this product some lambs will needlesly die and will have to be destroyed unless a new product comes out. Why do the powers that be make things harder and harder ? Its a welfare issue. It wont be them dealing with sick animals and getting stressed will it ? One day like everyone eventually I will wake up and think " fuck this shit ". They drive all industries to this point making things harder and harder. This is why people retire, move to a house in the country side and just walk a dog all day for a life.
As the woman who works at the Vets said " If a product works they stop making it "

An un-earthly beauty
It recently struck me how odd it was during the story of Wuthering Heights that Catherine during her downward spiral due to TB should be described as having possessing an " un-earthly beauty. " How could anyone who was dying be described this way ? And what further fascinates me is that to die due to " consumption " as they called it, was looked on as a romantic death or something to be held as... I cant find the words to express this until I came across a documentary about the Bronte sisters and the brutal age they lived in.
Anyway on watching this documentary I learned this odd admiration was the victorian equivalent of " heroin chic " Of course a death from TB ( I just typed TV ) was not glamorous, just as a death from drugs is not, but the same silly attitudes reigned back then admiring the image of decay in what I expect was mainly women. Having said that I have witnessed this " chic " in someone once or rather the mild beginnings of it, and yes there was a certain heady dangerous beauty there. I think when the body weakens that vulnerability triggers the reproductive instincts of urgency and survival in the onlooker. A sharpening of perception that cuts through the mundane bullshit of everyday life. Something is happening, its ACTUALLY happening.
I shall post more about this soon on the other blog...

Are you expendable ?
Its been a sobering week. After a visit from a consultant who was offering several hours of free advice we were basically told that within 5 years our farm income would be basically zero or less due to the phasing out of subsidies. To put that in perspective this current year which has seen the best profit for at least 15 years is all due to subsidy. Our profit is the subsidy we receive basically, and thats on a good year. There is no shame in saying this, and any other small farmer though they will never tell you are in the same boat.
Food has been produced for years for " not for profit " prices. This has enable the sellers such as supermarkets to obtain the food at the lowest possible price. I wont go into the politics of this but rather want to say that there is a tribulation ahead in food production in which many like myself are going to be in the situation of only doing what pays and pride is going to go out of the window. Its going to be a culture shock for this area that is very traditional. The figures say it cannot be avoided.
People often say farmers are " feather bedded " but farm profits are not even at 80's levels today. How is that possible ? With the recent inflation figures at 7% any food price increase or supply problem is going to cause people even more hardship. It may not come to this though as apparently 10% of farms are not viable after the phase out of support and are expected to be bought up by bigger farms. Everything gets bigger and bigger. Its not nice being told you are expendable.
The only hope this area has is that we are in a National Park and the landscape needs farming to keep it from becoming scrub and of the appearance that tourists expect. There maybe new help ahead though, but no one knows. No one can plan ahead because of this. Its a volatile time. All I can say is that whatever is offered to us it will not equal what we have received in the past and that figure was essential. Everyone including the public are going to pay, big time.
Now here is a fact that makes my blood boil. The figure the finacial support for UK farmers is nearly £4 billion, but we have just wasted £38 billion on " track and trace " covid contacting. Nothing like getting our priorities right, eh ?
NIMBY's
Yesterday was amusing. A man from the National Park called in to say he was taking some photos of the manor next door. Apparently a mystery person had reported the new owners, suspecting they had started work on the roof without the correct planning permission. This he stated was not the case, but he was taking some pictures as a formality. I wonder if anything odd comes out in them ?
Yes, the new owners will quickly find out what the " locals " are like. There is ALWAYS someone watching you here and plotting. This is especially true of those who have moved here. They are called NIMBY's - Not In My Back Yard ! Its a truly miserable night here with wind, rain and sleet. Its grim and Im bored.
The new couple have been around this weekend. I guess they are checking on the work undertaken this week fixing the broken water pipe containing a stop tap. They will need a fully functioning stop tap in the future. And you can take that to the bank...lol

The Big Question
If there had not been a lockdown, and my rights taken away, would I have just accepted the vaccine ?
