Ive always liked this scene taken from King of the Hill. Today this is exactly what happened to me in the car store Halfords. I tried to buy a piece of wire with certain connections for a CD player and the only person in the store was a teenager who was utterly clueless. Not his fault as the " car entertainment " specialist was not working today. He even looked like this youth but wore a hat. Its becoming a modern curse that kids on minimum wage who cannot be expected to have specialist knowledge are left deal with all customers demands.
I guess its better than the self service route some clothes shops have gone down, but not by much. Self service payment points are the ultimate insult. The store sells you an item and you still have to do the work of paying by card, and it is work as it rarely goes smoothly and I often end up calling for assistance anyway. No wonder online shopping is taking off.
