In limbo ?

 I bought a new set of tyres for my car this week. As I drove in the first thing I saw was a large sign telling me to wear a mask. When I asked the owner why the sign was there, and pointed out that he was still wearing a mask on the day it was no longer the law, I got a graphic answer I was not expecting. 

" You do know people are still dying ? Its not over yet. This is most likely just a brief respite. There was a 22 year woman who had no underlying health conditions, and they had to slit her throat ( at this point he drew his finger in a horizontal line across his throat ) and put a tube down her so she could breath. Her immune system was shot to bits and she had to learn to walk again "

I was at a loss for words after that statement. Its strange that a man could still be so hyped and afraid after it is generally recognized that is at long last the we should be thinking about getting back to normal. His eyes were so wild, he was in a different world. He reminded me of the people in the novel 1984. There was no hope for him. What was disturbing was the way he drew his finger across his throat. It was un-necessary and macabre. If someone wants to live in this state then you cannot help them.

Just why are we Brits suddenly free of most restrictions ? Political expedience just to help out a floundering leader just doesn't seem a satisfactory explanation. I came across an idea while reading 1984. In the novel Big Brother fears creating marters. They attracted more rebellion, and made the population revolt harder and even at times forget their fear. People were forced to " reformed " then they were  quietly killed much later, when they appeared to be free again and back in public life. When I look at the rest of Europe Im suspicious why we are allowed these new freedoms.
