Its not always about you ! That is something that needs to sink into the heads of people who live in this valley. I know its probably caused by the isolation and lack of stimulation sometimes, and the over awareness of ones self due to the tranquil surroundings. Paranoia is rife here. The examples that follow are amusing manifestations of this condition.
A friend recently went on a walk. This walk passed the house of a family whose daughter was a well known local beauty. As he passed he was singing a Buddy Holly song. " Everyday its a little closer, going faster than a roller coaster, love like this will surely come my way " A few days later he bumped into said parents and they were quite off with him, and eventually asked why he had sung that song to their daughter. She must have been outside at the time. He explained it was all obviously a twist of chance, but they were convinced it was aimed at her. I had to laugh at that one...
The second example is one I experienced myself and it really is absurd. A local building has restored a house on single track road with a blind bend. All my driving life ive sounded my car horn when approaching that bend . After doing so once a while ago the house owner stopped me in the road and asked with annoyance why I kept honking at him EVERY TIME I went past. " Why would you do that ? " he said He had held this idea for years in his head, and had never equated it to the blind bend. This is the attitude of over self awareness that is common here. Im probably guilty of it myself. Yes, it definitely sounds like me...lol
These things just make me shake my head and give up. Of course each happening further creates the local paranoia. It grows and grows in the countryside. Sometimes it is nice to visit a town and feel anonymous. Somewhere where people are more self absorbed than to examine every detail around them.
