It alarmed me how primitive the triggers were that used to cause me anxiety. The hiss of a bottle opening was like a snake. A shadow falling over me was like being over shadowed by a predator. Dogs barking triggered fight or flight in me. It was so unavoidable and programmed deep in my nature, probably thousands of years ago. This is why the brain is such a tough cookie to master.
Yeah, I hate certain sounds too. Hissing definitely is a real trigger. Once, around 3 am, I heard a group of coyotes running around the place howling and yapping. It really gave me chills, especially since I've had to (in the past), go to work around that time.
ReplyDeleteIt must feel different in the USA when there are dangerous animals and huge wilderness's. The feeling of nature must be overwhelming and be respected. As you have many animals that could threaten humans I wonder if that is why hunting is more acceptable ? Our nature seems very tame ,and often portrayed as fragile.
