A last minute visit

So last evening it finally stopped raining and I decided I had time before dusk to visit a Church at the village of Aysgarth in Yorkshire. It was about an hour away. Ive been meaning to visit this Church all summer after a tree there left an impression on me in the graveyard last winter. The village is best known for its waterfalls though.

On reaching this tree I was wondering whether I had imagined how like a face the trunk looked last winter. I couldnt see anything until I looked at this photograph I took. I think it was because the leaves were still on it blocking the light. In winter im betting this looks much starker and clearer. I know I was in a rush as it was starting to rain last year when it amused me, but I never noticed how close the grave stones were and that big black one looks very menacing. It reminds me of a chess piece.

This gave me a start. Straight out of a Hammer horror film !

There were many old gothic tombs stones ect. Looking around on my own with dusk approaching was very peaceful, but I did feel contentious. Theft is rife in this area as it rural and not too far from the capital of thieves Durham. Durham itself is a historic destination but like an town has its rough deprived side. I feel satisfied that I made the effort to visit after work, and catch the final hours of day light. Day light is now a precious and now disappearing commodity.
