Ive recently found this old tv series while searching for the original Hammer House of Horror tv series from the 70's. I wasnt allowed to watch that back then due to my age, although some of my friends with less strict parents would tell me " next morning " at school about how scary it all was.
Anyway The Frighteners it seems was not a tv horror series, rather tales of people who quickly find themselves in dire and dangerous situations. The stories are about 25 minutes long and are quick paced and gritty. Anything filmed during this period has a harsh look to it. They make today look so cushioned and soft ?
This episode has made it onto this blog because it is a good example of how life can give us so many instances that back up a fear we may have, or a worrying idea. The situations contained in this story are many and have all got explainable circumstances. What is unusual here is that there are a constant orchestrated chain of them. The linking of this chain is the disturbing part here. What hope do we have when time and again life rams home conformations of our fears in a ridiculous manner. Well im old enough to hang onto that a bit of hope that the pattern is un-natural and disingenuous. Maybe it even has some kind of malice behind it. It does happen. It really does.
My Dad says that the old are invisible in public, but as people age they grow increasingly unaware of people in close physical proximity to them, sometimes not until until the last minute, and sometimes not at all. I guess age reduces our self awareness of what, or who is in our immediate sphere also ?
