Ive always had a sentimental spot for this old advert. But on watching again today one thing hits me right between the eyes. At 1:42 as the tractor drives past the pony ceases dancing briefly to preserve its mundane appearance. Thats how I feel living in this valley, if i'm mowing the lawn or washing my car or when doing anything none farm work related. These acts trigger curiosity in people, and I hate to admit it but in me as well, but I try to fight such a silly outlook. It doesnt help when people drive past our farm and automatically glance into the yard to see " whats up "
I think its a kind of sensory deprivation that causes this. Its cabin fever, but created by an enclosed valley. This all sounds ridiculous when put in print.
I used to live in a valley (in California), far away from the cities. It did feel like living in a different world, and I enjoyed it in a way. I also had a Welsh pony and it was very mean lol.
ReplyDeleteWas that the one that pulled down a fence ?
DeleteNo, lol. That was my father's crazy half-Thoroughbred horse. That horse was a menace and she was the reason I also broke my arm.
