This lesson really needs to be learned by male and females. Its especially aimed also at middle aged middle class couples whose children have flown the nest and now spend their time endlessly walking the countryside in an arrogant trance like state while playing the innocent that their dogs is a wild animal in the heat of the moment, as are they.
Dogs are pack animals and need one dominant member of the family to control them. What usually happens is that the more emotional person in the family (or hysterical) ends up wanting to treat the dog like a small child. The dog then looks towards that family member as its "leader" and then disregards the other members of the family, including the other dogs. Then that dog may attack the other people and animals. I learned this after having issues with a dog that was dominant. My mother coddled the dog and it became wild. The trainer said I had to become the leader, but my mother didn't cooperate so the dog continued to do what it wanted. It used to bite the other dogs and it tried to attack us as well. The only person the dog didn't mess with was me though, because I was aggressive in my stance with it. It was a very small dog too. After it lost all of its teeth it stopped trying to attack everyone.
