Interesting concept from my point of view as I have two anecdotes that are very close to the bone when considering this outrageous idea.
The first story is an old one from a few hundred years ago. Not sure on an exact date, but a group of men we caught fighting in the church yard. They were local names of families that are still here in the valley. The surnames were Middleton, Capstick and more alarmingly Haygarth.
The second is a more modern instance. A local preacher said he had a vision of " a dark cloud hanging over Dent " He suggested that there was something hanging over the valley that was very negative. I think about that every time a literal dark cloud is hanging over the village further down the valley. On a different note...
Now while my sister was visiting her partner showed me an old news paper online that told the weird and disturbing story of an ancestor of mine who discovered the grave of a child that had been freshly dug in a field. The child was the daughter of a very disturbed local woman who had tried to hide the body. This field is not too far away from where I heard the sound of a child sobbing years ago one August night, I shall post the news paper story if I can. This seems to tie in with what I heard.
The only thing more depressing than the thought that bad things happen here a little too often is that its just the same everywhere. It maybe when viewed retrospectively over history, but today and recently in these modern times visitors do seem to be at risk of accidental death more than Im comfortable with. Now try arguing that one ! It needs vision to link the events and an ability to believe a horrific possibility.
